Director, Corporate Strategy & Portfolio

WeConnect Energy is currently recruiting for a Director, Corporate Strategy & Portfolio Management on behalf of our client, an energy company in the UAE. 

Role Purpose:

Lead and manage Corporate Strategy and Portfolio Management activities to drive transformation into a global, commercially focused, and performance-driven organisation. Act as an internal strategy “think tank,” shaping long-term strategy, overseeing portfolio performance, and supporting major investment, capital allocation, and strategic decisions in a dynamic energy and industrial landscape.

Key Responsibilities:

Corporate Strategy

• Lead the development and execution of corporate strategies aligned to long-term growth, value creation, performance, and efficiency objectives
• Provide strategic insight and challenge on major business decisions, investment choices, and enterprise-wide initiatives.
• Translate corporate strategy into actionable portfolio initiatives and guide business planning processes to ensure strategic alignment.
• Review and challenge business plans to ensure consistency with corporate strategy, financial assumptions, and performance targets.
• Act as a strategic advisor to senior leadership on emerging trends, risks, and strategic implications of external events.

Portfolio Management 

• Maintain a comprehensive, up-to-date view of the corporate portfolio, including assets, projects, and investments
• Lead portfolio analysis to identify growth opportunities, value creation levers, synergies, optimisation, and standardisation opportunities.
• Oversee portfolio simulations, scenario modelling, sensitivity analysis, and marginal cost curve development across economic, technological, geopolitical, and market variables.

• Conduct portfolio benchmarking against peer organisations and global best practice.
•  
• Provide regular portfolio performance and outlook reporting to senior management and governance forums.
•  
• Build strong relationships with consultancies, industry experts, and market participants to inform strategic decision-making.

Business Development 

• Lead the identification, screening, evaluation, and negotiation of new business and investment opportunities.
• Drive innovation, performance improvement, cost optimisation, and profitability through partnerships, transactions, and strategic initiatives.
• Build and maintain relationships with potential partners, investors, and counterparties.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline (essential).

• Master’s degree in Strategy, Economics, or Business Management (preferred).
•  
• Minimum 20 years’ experience across strategy, portfolio management, or value-chain roles, with at least 12 years in senior leadership positions.
•  
• Strong expertise in economic modelling, investment evaluation, and portfolio optimisation.
•  
• Deep understanding of operational, technological, and financial value drivers in large, complex organisations.
•  
• Proven ability to operate at executive and board level, with strong stakeholder management capability.
