JOB SUMMARY  
A specialist engineering and technical services provider supporting the energy sector, with a strong focus on upstream oil and gas operations. The Laboratory Technician (Material Characterization) is responsible for conducting laboratory testing and analysis to support material evaluation and asset integrity within the energy sector. This role plays a key part in generating accurate and reliable data through advanced characterization techniques. Working closely with engineers and laboratory specialists, the technician ensures that testing procedures are executed efficiently and in line with industry standards. The position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and adherence to safety and quality protocols. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 
• Prepare samples and conduct material characterization tests using laboratory equipment 
• Perform analyses using techniques such as XRD, SEM, and EDS 
• Conduct mechanical testing and document results accurately 
• Ensure proper calibration, operation, and maintenance of laboratory instruments 
• Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols at all times 
• Record, analyze, and report test data in a clear and structured manner 
• Support engineers and specialists in interpreting laboratory results 
• Maintain laboratory cleanliness, organization, and compliance with quality standards 

QUALIFICATIONS  
• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related field 
• 3–5 years of experience in laboratory testing and material characterization 
• Experience working in industrial or energy-related laboratory environments is preferred 

EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS 

Essential 
• Proficiency in sample preparation and laboratory testing techniques 
• Hands-on experience with XRD, SEM, and EDS analysis 
• Experience in mechanical testing and material evaluation 
• Strong understanding of laboratory safety practices and SOP compliance 
• Ability to accurately document and report technical data 
• Familiarity with laboratory equipment calibration and maintenance 
• Strong attention to detail and analytical skills 

Preferred 
• Experience in oil and gas or energy sector laboratories 
• Familiarity with advanced material characterization techniques 
• Exposure to quality management systems (ISO standards) 
• Experience working in multidisciplinary technical teams
