Sr. Sulphur Research Engineer

JOB SUMMARY  
The Senior Sulphur Research Engineer is responsible for leading research, development, and optimization initiatives related to Sulphur recovery, processing, and handling within oil & gas and petrochemical operations. 

This role focuses on advancing Sulphur-related technologies, improving process efficiency, and solving complex technical challenges across the value chain. Working closely with process engineers, laboratory teams, and operations, the position plays a key role in driving innovation and enhancing asset performance. 

The successful candidate will bring deep technical expertise in Sulphur chemistry and process 
engineering, combined with strong analytical capabilities and the ability to lead research 
initiatives from concept through to implementation. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 
• Lead research and development projects focused on Sulphur recovery and processing technologies  
• Design and optimize Sulphur-related processes (e.g., Claus process, tail gas treatment, Sulphur handling systems)  
• Conduct laboratory and pilot-scale experiments to evaluate process performance and improvements  
• Analyze operational data to identify inefficiencies and recommend optimization strategies  
• Support troubleshooting and performance improvement initiatives across Sulphur recovery units (SRUs)  
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including process, production, and R&D  
• Develop innovative solutions to improve Sulphur recovery efficiency, emissions control, and operational reliability  
• Prepare technical reports, studies, and presentations for internal stakeholders and clients  
• Stay updated with emerging technologies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices  

QUALIFICATIONS  
• Master’s degree (highly preferred) in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or Sulphur-related specialization 
• Extensive experience in Sulphur recovery, processing, or related research within oil & gas or petrochemical industries  
• PhD is advantageous for highly research-focused or innovation-led roles 

EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS 

Essential 
• Deep expertise in Sulphur chemistry and Sulphur recovery processes  
• Strong experience in Sulphur processing technologies within oil & gas or petrochemical industries  
• Knowledge of Claus process, tail gas treatment, and Sulphur plant operations  
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities  
• Experience in process optimization, simulation, and performance evaluation  
• Ability to lead technical research initiatives and innovation projects skills             

Preferred 
• Experience with process simulation tools   
• Exposure to emissions control, environmental compliance, and Sulphur recovery regulations  
• Experience with pilot plant operations or scale-up activities  
• Background in refinery or gas processing facilities  
• Experience working in multidisciplinary or consulting environments
